Our Interns

Bernie’s Book Bank is proud to have a team of dedicated students who volunteer their time and talent as interns. The internship program at Bernie’s Book Bank gives students the opportunity to put the skills they learned in the classroom to work.

Meet our 2018 interns –

Grace Brezina – Marketing

Grace goes to Ohio University where she is studying strategic communications in the journalism school. When she graduates she hopes to pursue a career in communications for a nonprofit organization. She spent half of her summer studying abroad in Italy and her favorite book is The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien.

Joselle Escobar – New Media

Joselle (Josie) attends the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign and studies Political Sciences. In the future she hopes to study Law but also work for a non-profit like Bernie’s Book Bank. Fun Fact: Josie has been dancing since she was 8 years old and still enjoys being a part of a dance company in college today. Her favorite book is the Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

Sarah Fisher – Processing Center

Sarah attends Vanderbilt University where she studies sociology. In the future she wishes to attend law school and pursue a career with a nonprofit organization. Sarah spent the past year doing service work throughout South America and India. Her favorite author is Chuck Palahniuk and her favorite childhood book is Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss.

Susanne Fluri – Marketing

Susanne goes to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and is studying Strategic Communications and American Studies. When she graduates, she wishes to pursue a career in advertising or marketing.  She spent the fall of 2017 studying abroad in Luxembourg, and had the opportunity to travel to many different countries. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis. Her favorite book is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Tommy Martin – Events

Tommy attends Miami University where he majors in marketing and minors in management and leadership. A fun fact about Tommy is that he spent last February volunteering in Peru. His favorite book is the 12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson

Luke Mulligan – Data

Luke goes to Lake Forest High School, where he is a member on the track and field team. He is interested in studying computer science in college. In his free time, he enjoys playing volleyball. His favorite books have always been the Harry Potter Series.

Class of 2017 interns –

Elizabeth Chapman-Orr – Marketing

Elizabeth goes to Grinnell College and is studying Psychology and Neuroscience. When she graduates, she would like to research neurodegenerative diseases. Elizabeth is a dual-citizen and has traveled to 4 of the 7 continents. She grew up reading the Harry Potter series and they now hold a special place in her heart.

Peter Dales – Finance

Peter goes to Chapman University. In addition to studying Accounting, he also plays on the water polo team. When he graduates, he would like to work in finance. A fun fact about him is that he is ambidextrous. His favorite book is The Giver by Lois Lowry.

Ryan Eifert – Finance

Ryan goes to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His main areas of interest are Finance and Computer Science. When he graduates he would like to look into entrepreneurship. Ryan loves water sports, sailing, and scuba diving. He enjoys travelling and has visited many unique countries across the world. His favorite book is The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.


Katrina Hicks – Social Media

Katrina goes to Hawaii Pacific University and studies Advertising/Public Relations. In the future, she would like to be an account manager for an advertising agency. Katrina has spent 3 years living on an alpaca farm in a small town in Idaho and graduated high school when she was 16. Her favorite book is The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster.

Hannah Jeon – Graphic Design

Hannah goes to Johns Hopkins University. She studies Creative Writing and Psychology. When she graduates, she would like to become an author and write poetry. In her free time, she enjoys film photography and collects vinyl records. She also has a cavapoo dog named Teddy. Her favorite books are The Great Gatsby be F. Scott Fitzgerald and the Harry Potter series.

Tommy Lacher – Processing Center

Tommy goes to University of Notre Dame and studies mechanical engineering and applied computational mathematics and statistics (ACMS). When he graduates, he wants to pursue a career in law to become a criminal or civil trial attorney. In his spare time, Tommy enjoys running and has competed in several full and half marathons. His favorite book series are the Ranger’s Apprentice series.


Taylor Landwer – New Media

Taylor went to Flagler College in Florida. She majored in Media Studies and wants to work for a publishing company. During her time at college, she was a radio DJ for two years and studied abroad in Ireland. Her favorite book is Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock.

Caroline Skinner – Processing Center

Caroline goes to Lake Forest High School. She wants to study chemical or biomedical engineering in college and eventually find a cure for Alzheimer’s dementia. Caroline plays varsity lacrosse and basketball. A fun fact about her is that she is allergic to dogs but has two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Her favorite book is “The Martian” by Andy Weir.

Jack Terlato – Finance

Jack goes to North Shore Country Day School. He is interested in studying computer science and enjoys working with technical theatre. Jack has already built two high-powered computers and eventually would like to develop software. His favorite book is Ready Player One.

Yesterday my kids received free books from your foundation and they were very thrilled. They began reading on the way home. I simply would like to express my sincere gratitude for your great deed. Sometimes as parents we have money issues and can’t purchase from places like “scholastics” and it was great to see them so happy with their books.
