The snowy Chicagoland weather didn’t stop volunteers from making the trek to Bernie’s Book Bank on January 24 and 25 for Volunteer-A-Thon. Volunteers helped to sort, sticker and pack books for local under-served children. To keep energy high over the course of 12 hours, volunteers had the chance to guest DJ and win prizes. Children enjoyed creating art at Bernie’s Craft Corner and the Lit League activity table. There were also ample delicious snacks and refreshments available so book lovers could re-fuel between sessions.
Take a look at Volunteer-A-Thon by the numbers:
- 490 volunteer hours completed
- 287 total volunteers
- 111 first-time volunteers
- 24 volunteers worked multiple shifts
- 15,500 books were sorted
- 5,556 bags were packed (children served)
Many thanks to everyone who shared their time and talent with us at Volunteer-A-Thon. Your generous support enables Bernie’s Book Bank to provide free books for 360,000 under-served children throughout Chicagoland.
Special thanks to Catering by Michaels for the delicious food and to Lit League for hosting a children’s activity table.
