Northbrook Woman’s Club Book Drive Brings the Community Together for Kids and Literacy

Northbrook Woman's Club book drive

The Northbrook Woman’s Club (NWC) is partnering with the Northbrook Farmers Market and Bernie’s Book Bank to host a community-wide children’s book drive on Wednesday, August 26, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northbrook Farmers Market.

Community members are encouraged to stop by the market and donate new or gently used children’s books for readers from birth through sixth grade. Every donated book will help Bernie’s Book Bank provide quality books to children throughout Chicagoland, helping build home libraries and giving children more opportunities to read, learn, and discover stories they love.

“Books have the power to open doors, spark imagination, and change the trajectory of a child’s life,” said Missy DeVries, Northbrook Woman’s Club President. “We’re honored to partner with Bernie’s Book Bank to make it easy for our neighbors to give back. Every book donated is an investment in a child’s future, and we hope our community will join us in helping ensure every child has the opportunity to discover the joy of reading.”

Visitors of the Farmers Market can also stop by the Northbrook Woman’s Club membership and information table to learn more about the organization’s commitment to philanthropy, volunteerism, and community service.

The Northbrook Woman’s Club has a long tradition of investing in the community through philanthropy and hands-on volunteer service. Since its founding, the organization’s Foundation has contributed more than $1.5 million in grants and scholarships, while members contribute thousands of volunteer hours to organizations throughout the North Shore and greater Chicagoland area.

The Club’s service extends across a variety of community needs. Members participate in Adopt-A-Highway cleanups, collect essential items for women’s shelters and local food pantries, sew dresses through Little Dresses for Africa, and create blankets for local animal shelters through the Fleece for Furry Friends project. This partnership with Bernie’s Book Bank is another opportunity to bring that spirit of service to children and families throughout the region.
