Combating the Literacy Crisis
Bernie’s Book Bank is receiving the 2023 Dyer Pearl Literacy Award, which recognizes local organizations that combat the literacy crisis in the United States. Bernie’s Book Bank founder Brian Floriani will accept the award at the National Celebration of Reading held at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
Hosting the award is The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. The foundation has been the nation’s leading advocate for family literacy for over three decades. Established by former First Lady Barbara Bush in 1989, the foundation is a public charity dedicated to creating a stronger, more equitable America in which everyone can read, write, and comprehend in order to navigate the world with dignity.
We are extremely honored to receive this award. However, there are still countless Chicagoland children who do not have books of their own. Learn about how you can help us transform the story for local children.
