Books have played a central part in Kathleen’s life with one of her earliest memories pretending to read a book and tending her library. Having read to her own children as they grew up, she witnessed the profound effect reading had on her children’s academic success as well as her own and believes book ownership changes lives. A book is a friend, takes the reader on adventures, and introduces a child to a larger world. She is excited to be part of the Bernie’s Book Bank team and believes in its mission to significantly increase book ownership among at-risk children.
Kathleen received her BS in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a Certified Public Accountant. Previously, she had accounting roles in both profit and non-profit organizations. Kathleen lives with her husband, Kevin, and their three teenage children, Claire, Simon and Beatrice, in Winnetka.
