Dan takes on IronMan challenge in support of Bernie’s Book Bank

An IronMan Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation, consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile run, raced in that order and without any breaks. It is considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world.

Dan McCracken has chosen to participate in the IronMan challenge and use this experience to raise awareness and monetary donations for Bernie’s Book Bank. The competition is on Sunday, September 9 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Please consider supporting Dan in his quest and donate to Bernie’s Book Bank!

A note from Dan –

My name is Daniel McCracken and wanted to start by saying thank you for stopping by!

My main motivation for participating in the Ironman Competition is to raise awareness for Bernie’s Book Bank. This is an organization that distributes high quality new and gently used children’s books to significantly increase book ownership among under-served infants, toddlers and school-aged children throughout Chicagoland.

I have decided to spend a few hours a day training for a race. A race that will test my physical and mental strength to the very core of its foundation. The IronMan Competition will be held on September 9th in Madison, WI.

Deep in our hearts, we want to discover where our deepest passions intersect with our greatest abilities in order to harness them so we can help make a change. I have been fascinated by the wonders of many literary journeys and travels beyond the edge of our viewable horizon.

It pains me to think there are children within the borders of our state that will never understand what Hemingway meant by “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”

Children that are being overlooked by a system that has focused our valuable resources on ideology and political favor. Children that are underutilizing their minds and falling into the despair of a poverty-stricken future.

We together can help those children. We together can bypass the broken education system that has failed them and offer a crucial tool for self-development and fulfillment.

Please help us educate the minds of our future. So that a new mathematician can solve the difficulties of deeper space travel or create a new generation of scientists that can help cure the complexities of cancer. Let’s give those children a chance to be their greatest selves by first giving them the foundation of an educated future.

There are many ways you can support this journey. First, you can donate. Even if it is only $1, you can make the change for one child by giving them one book. Second, you can talk about our cause online/or in person with friends, family and colleagues. Lastly, you can come to Madison and show your support in person. I can assure you that even this race will be a true test of my mettle and I will need all the support to push me through.

Thank you to those who would like to join the tribe of audaciousness. We shall find success through significance in this world.

You don't have to work in education to know that there are many factors in learning to be a successful reader, but none is as important as having actual access to personal books. Bernie's Book Bank comes walking right into the classrooms on a regular basis and makes the impossible possible for these children.
