Tony’s Subs of Deerfield* is a Bernie’s Book Bank driver find that deserves a week in the spotlight. Proud to claim they have the best subs hot or cold in town, our drivers can’t help but think they just might be right. This local sub shop has been run by its owner, Tony, for over 45 years with a never weaning dedication to excellent subs and service. Offering well over 20 different subs, they not only excel in quality, but also variety. Our drivers often debate on which meal takes the top spot, but the stand out deli delicacies include Tony’s Original Launcher, the mixed Italian, the imported ham, the beef and sausage combo and the meatball sub. This Bernie’s Book Bank diner has a special spot in his heart for both the mixed Italian and meatball subs. Although all the subs are dressed in premium meats and cheeses and sandwiched between mouthwatering Gonnella bread, the mixed Italian has the right mix of mortadella, salami and provolone accented perfectly with their hot giardiniera. Additionally, their meatballs are a picture of perfection, generously smothered in provolone and partnered once again with their giardiniera. In addition to well-crafted sandwiches, they also have succulent soups to which I personally recommend the split pea.
