Bernie Floriani Jr.

Celebrating the life and legacy of Bernie Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we share news of Bernie Floriani Jr.’s passing. Bernie was a beloved son of our namesake Dr. Bernard P. Floriani and Cathy Floriani and a cherished brother of our Founder Brian Floriani and Lindsey Floriani Arterburn. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, caring uncle and valued member of the Gurnee community.

Bernie was a brilliant leader and always encouraged those around him saying, “right now means everything.” Bernie fought ALS for the past six years with strength and tenacity. He leaned on his family, friends and faith throughout his battle.

We are grateful to Bernie for his unwavering support of Bernie’s Book Bank. He was a founding Board Member and two-time Birdies & Books Charity Golf Classic champion, taking home the trophy in 2009 and 2012. Bernie passionately believed that books have the power to change a child’s story.

Bernie’s family invites you to celebrate his life and legacy by making a donation to Bernie’s Book Bank in his honor. Every $20 donation provides 10 books for a Chicagoland child.

As a retired English / Reading teacher, I am deeply moved by the entire Floriani family and the success of Bernie’s Books. I am proud to say as a young girl growing up in West Newton, I knew Bernie Jr.’s father and mother Cathy. I did not know Bernie Junior personally, but I want to extend my belated condolences to the entire Floriani family. I am deeply saddened by your family’s tragedies. Yet I am so appreciative of your dedication and in awe of your accomplishments in providing reading access to children. May the love and pride of others provide some comfort to your family. God bless you all and thank you.

For the few times I met Bernie I felt he was a good, trustworthy man loving life and his family. His smile was infectious. He was my State Farm agent Bernie from Gurnee. What a great tag line!!! My thoughts and prayers to your family and office workers.
