The 2019 Volunteer-A-Thon was a success! For 12 hours on February 1 and 2, volunteers of all ages and abilities sorted, stickered and packed books for the at-risk Chicagoland children we serve. New for this year’s event, volunteers had the chance to complete the Book Challenge, a scavenger hunt-type quest, to earn fun prizes. Friday night volunteers enjoyed a special live performance by our very own, Billy Nixon.

Take a look at Volunteer-A-Thon by the numbers:

  • 890 volunteer hours completed
  • 282 first-time volunteers
  • 98 volunteers worked multiple shifts
  • 16 volunteers worked both days
  • 4 volunteers completed all 12 hours
  • 30,000 books were sorted
  • 10,000 bags were packed (children served)

Many thanks to everyone who came out to volunteer with us. Our mission is only possible with your support.

Special thanks to Catering by Michaels and Joey B’s Catering for the delicious food and desserts. Also, thanks to Susan Ryan Kalina Photography for capturing the event beautifully.
